“I think it is impossible to change my roots, a part of me that represents who I really am. Our roots can, however, be a restriction, since they make us adapt to conformities we may not agree with. This is why changing our point of view can help us see life from a different perspective. This installation recreates the space where the whole family — our roots — gathers.” — Elisa Selli. First shown in What if?, a group exhibition at the artist-run space In Situ, the installation proposes an alternative vision of space: the viewer stands beneath the furniture, forced to contemplate falling objects, announced by a chair broken on the floor. In this absurd set-up, which reverses reality, the dialectic between the real and illusion emerges; destruction is sublimated and presented as change towards a possibly more just reality. — from the text by Porter Ducrist. In 2017 the work won the Sky Arte HD Award at the RUFA Contest “How deep are your roots? Represent the courage to change”, judged by a committee including Karim Rashid and Fabio Mongelli, and was shown at Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, Rome.
