The image of the thread runs through the infinite variations of human existence. We are immersed in a reality woven with allegories, metaphors and expressions that, through the vocabulary of yarn, tell the very essence of our thought. Being and weaving, as the title of Luciano Ghersi's text has it. Elisa Selli's works investigate the communicative energy of weaving — too often considered an ancillary language to painting and sculpture — and assert its dignity and autonomy. Four canvases, inextricably linked, mark the fundamental moments of a narrative: thresholds to be crossed between a here and an elsewhere. The delicacy of the thread challenges the weight of paint; the raw loom-frame undermines the laws of space dictated by the frame. Cyan, magenta, yellow and black: the four pillars of colour without which the narrative would remain unexpressed. Weft and warp constantly speak to each other, just as fabula and plot must coexist in a story. There is a thread that double-knots narrative, lived experience, image and the intimate act of weaving.from the text by Alessandra Addante
